PSCU –It’s Vision for the Future
Mrs Margaret Weston - President

Credit Unions all over the world were formed out of a need to provide a service to persons who initially found it difficult to approach the traditional banks to support their dream of owning a home, a parcel of land or furthering the education of family members.  Over the years, as these cooperatives grew, we have seen the need to provide products and services to capture, the attention and commitment of the widest cross section of our communities, and so have become direct competitors to banks and other financial institutions.

In keeping with this therefore, the Board of Directors of the PSCU, as indeed, other Credit Unions have had to remodel and re-engineer its objectives and processes to meet the growing demands of its diverse clientele.

While maintaining our vision of improving the lives of our members by adopting  creative strategies, we have seen the need to refocus our energies on some of the following strategies.

Quality Customer Service –

Our aim is to ensure that each member or potential member of our Credit Union who approaches us to take advantage of one of our products and services, is treated with the highest degree of dignity, respect and with full knowledge of the transaction.  All products and services come with clear instructions as to eligibility and criteria, and we aim to ensure that each member is fully appraised of these criteria, and also be given the exposure to alternative courses of action, in the event that the member does not qualify.

Remember, not every member may qualify for a product of choice, but they must be satisfied that the transaction was accomplished in such a manner, that they remain satisfied as to the outcome.  Our half yearly member survey will provide us with the feedback we need to access the effectiveness of our customer service.

Increase in Capital Adequacy –
While we continue to perform creditably within the landscape, our capital ratios could always do with an additional boast.  Part of our strategy to take this to another level, is to encourage a stronger saving pattern among our members.

Traditionally, we have used share campaigns to increase our share capital, but we need, through education, to continue to share with our members, the value of saving – today – to provide a better base for tomorrow.

Our marketing and supervisory staff are under continuous training to ensure that they are provided with the tools to increase their selling efforts with each and every member.

Increase Use of Technology –

Following on the Government’s initiative to have a “computer in every home" is PSCU’s wish to enhance customer services through more interactions with on –line products.  We aim, during 2008, to increase the use of a highly interactive Web Site, where members are able to get share balances, carry out simple account transfers, and generally to have immediate access to balances.

Through the use of email address, we aim to celebrate the anniversaries and other important dates with our members and to truly epitomize the “family concept at PSCU”

Introduction of the Debit Card –

Very soon our new International Visa Debit card, will be launched to our members, with the emphasis being on using this as a tool to save, through the transfer of fixed sums of money for spending.  Due to the ready access of statements being on-line, the member is then able to keep greater track of monthly expenditure and therefore only spend what is intended.  We truly see this as a most effective way to save.

The Board of Directors at PSCU recognizes the need to “focus on the member” and to ensure that with the enhanced training of staff, and with the introduction of more security and enhanced systems, we can make a difference in the lives of our members.

We invite you to partner with us, while giving us the opportunity to continue to serve you.

On Us You Can Rely!!
